When I first started looking into what organic industry structure meant, I was devistated. Companies that I loved and trusted were really owned by conglomerates that were part of the problem in the first place. Annie's Organics was the first company I saw that was owned by a large conglomerate, General Mills. I had been buying their salad dressing for years, never realizing that I was supporting General Mills in return. It was the first of a long list of disappointments, as I learned that many of my favorite companies had been bought out much the same way that Annie's Organics had been. This is the most complete list I could find as of June 2015.

General Mill's owns: Annie's Organics; Muir Glen; Cascadian Farms; Food Should Taste Good; Immaculate Baking and Larabar.

PepsiCo. owns: Flat Earth Snacks; Ethos Water; Naked Juice and Simple Harvest.

The Coca-Cola Company owns: Honest Tea; Simply Organge; Zico Cococnut Water and Odwalla.

Dean owns: White Wave/Silk; Alta Dena, Horizon and The Organic Cow of Vermont.

Kellogg owns: Bear Naked; Wholesome & Hearty; Kashi; Morningstar Farms and Gardenburger.

Mondelez (formerly a division of Kraft) owns: Back to Nature Foods and Boca Foods.

J.M. Smucker owns: R.W. Knudsen and Santa Cruz Organic.

Con-Agra owns: Alexia Foods and Lightlife.

Snyder's Lance owns: Late July.

Campbell Soup Company owns: Wolfgang Puck; Plum Organics and Bolthouse Farms.

Dannon or Danone owns: Happy Family; Stonyfeild and Brown Cow.

Hormel owns: Applegate.

Nestle owns: Sweet Leaf Tea; Perrier; S. Pellegrino and Tribe Mediterranean Foods.

Hershey Foods owns: Dagoba.

Diamond Foods owns: Kettle Brand.

The last conglomerate that I want to mention because it is so big is the Hain Celestial group. Honestly, this company is in limbo for me. They own more organic companies than any of the other above mention companies, however all of the companies they own seem to all be either organic or more natural than the rest. It is because of this that I have found no reason to not trust them yet but because it is such a big corporation, it is something to keep an eye on. The organic companies owned by Hain Celestial are as follows: Ella's Kitchen; Earth's Best; Nile Spice; Spectrum Organics; Garden of Eatin'; DeBole's; Arrowhead Mills; Health Valley; Casbah; Imagine/Rice Dream/Soy Dream; Celestial Seasonings; Westbrae; West Soy; Bearitos; Little Bear; SunSpire; MaraNatha; Mountain Sun and Millina's Forest.
